  11. What is sCrypt™ ?
  12.  
  13. sCrypt™ is a simple freeware Macintosh™ editor with an encrypting feature. It is
  14. designed for encryption tasks like writing personal email and keeping a diary. To
  15. encrypt some text, one first chooses a key which is any string of alphanumeric
  16. characters. Then simply type or paste the text into sCrypt™, set the key, and choose
  17. the encrypt command from the encrypt menu. The encrypted data is also in text
  18. format and is automatically copied into the clipboard. To mail the encrypted text,
  19. one simply opens a mail package (like Eudora) and pastes the encrypted text.

  21. For pure mail encrypting tasks, Crypt (also Freeware) is a better choice but is has
  22. no editing features.

  26. • System 6 or later.
  27. • Uses 256 k (can be reduced to 64k if you are encrypting text only)

  31. Put sCrypt in your applications folder.

  33. Simple Instructions to ENCRYPT
  34.  
  35. • Type in the text, or load a TEXT file using OPEN.
  36. • Set your KEY using the set key command
  37. • Choose the ENCRYPT menu command
  38. • The encrypted text (cyphertext) appears in your window.

  40. Simple Instructions to DECRYPT
  41.  
  42. • COPY the encrypted TEXT and past it into sCrypt.
  43. Remember to include the header whch reads "(TEXT Encrypted with Crypt 0.4.0)"
  44. when you copy the encrypted data. Include the brackets too.
  45. • Set your KEY using the set key command
  46. • Choose the DECRYPT menu command
  47. • The original text (plaintext) appears in your window.
  48. • If the encrypted object was a picture, a preview window will appear and you must
  49. PASTE the picture into a suitable application. sCrypt does not support pictures (yet :).

  51. Crypt's encryption system is compatible with Crypt 0.4, a desk scrap encryptor, and
  52. also with secretDiary -- a program for keeping a diary on your mac. It is not
  53. compatible with earlier versions. Fortunately there are not too many of these around !

  62. • Teach sCrypt to have some simple picture editing features.
  63. • An info region containing the size of the scrap.
  64. • Include 'styl' information on the scrap.
  65. • Windows and UNIX Versions. The core is very portable.
  66. • Deal with AOCE scrap formats.
